The Edit Symbols option allows the user to change the colour and / or symbol style of any symbol used in the Symbolic Pole Plot and Scatter Plot.
To change the colour or style of symbols:
Right-click on a Pole or Scatter plot and select Edit Symbols.
Select the symbol from the Symbols list that you would like to modify.
Select the Border Colour, Fill Colour and Symbol Style, as desired.
Select OK.
Note that you can select multiple symbols from the Symbols list, if you wish to change more than one symbol at once to the same colour and style.
Auto-Format
The Auto-Format option can be used to quickly apply various symbol formats to the plot.
The Default Symbols option will reset the symbols to the default symbols used in Dips.
The Filled Squares option will change the Symbol Style of all symbols to Squares with the same Border and Fill colour. This is useful if the number of data points is very high, and will make the plot easier to interpret.
The DOS Style option will use exactly the same symbol styles and colours as the DOS version of Dips, if you wish to compare plots with output from earlier versions of the program.
Save
The Save option allows you to save the Symbols in the CURRENT VIEW to a Dips Symbols File (.DIS file name extension). A list of saved Symbols files will appear in the Auto-Format list, allowing you to apply customized symbols to any view, at a later time.
NOTE that if you name a Symbols file STARTUP.DIS, then this will determine the default Symbols used at program startup.
To restore the original program default symbols, you will have to DELETE or RENAME the STARTUP.DIS file.
Edit Symbols is available in the View menu, and in the right-click menu on a Pole Plot or Scatter Plot.
NOTE: if you wish to maintain symbol consistency for the same data in different files, use the Lock Symbols option. This allows the user to create a master list of Symbol / Column / Data combinations, which will apply to all Dips files. Symbols that are locked will NOT be editable in the Symbol Editor dialog, they must first be unlocked in the Symbol Locker dialog, if you wish to edit them.
